If a child is at risk to himself or others, and any time you or others think a child is having a mental health crisis, call CARES (Crisis And Referral Entry Service). CARES is a service that handles mental health crisis calls for children and adolescents in Illinois.

If a child is in immediate risk of harming himself or others, call 911 or take the child to the local emergency department. Once there, the emergency department staff will call CARES.
If a person is in danger of harming himself or herself, take the individual to the nearest hospital emergency department or call 911.
