Child & Adolescent Therapy
At Memorial Counseling Associates, our therapists help children and adolescents who are experiencing difficulties with their emotions or behavior. During therapy sessions, children and adolescents share their feelings and resolve problems through play therapy techniques and traditional talk therapy.
Some children and adolescents come to MCA for a specific purpose such as changing behaviors or improving a relationship with a friend or family member. Others come to MCA for general issues such as anxiety, depression or low self-esteem. Our therapists also provide evidence-based treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) that involves the child, their families, and educators. Children diagnosed with ADHD are provided with the awareness, skills and support systems they need to overcome their disability and realize their academic and social potential. If your child's pediatrician is prescribing medications, MCA's therapists will work closely with the physician to monitor your child's response to medications.
Therapy might be beneficial if your child is experiencing:
- Difficulties at school with teachers, peers or academics
- A sudden change in mood or behavior
- Increased irritability or excessive anger or aggression
- Family changes such as separation, divorce, or blended families
- Grief and loss of a loved one
- Changes in sleeping or eating habits
- Disturbing dreams, nightmares or fantasies
- Ideas, thoughts or feelings which are inappropriate for their age.
MCA's therapists work closely with a child's parents or guardians throughout therapy with the goal of improving communication between family members which can lead to improved relationships.
