Seniors over 60, grandparents raising grandchildren, and homebound seniors. Information and assistance, case management, elder abuse, transportation, in-home respite care, grandparents raising grandchildren support group, senior employment program, family caregiver resource center, legal assistance, nutrition, and home health.

Community Care Systems

A homemaker service that serves the elderly in their homes. They run errands, cook meals, clean, do laundry, and take clients to doctors' appointments. No medical treatment is given. Population Served: People over the age of 62 and those who meet agency guidelines. Payment: Private pay, some seniors get help through senior services based on their income.

Consumer Credit Counseling Service

Education service, advocates for resolving debt issues, help resolve financial concerns, credit counseling, credit score solutions, credit report solutions, debt management, reduction of interest rates, and housing counseling to prevent foreclosure. Population Served: Those who have at least two creditors and an income of some sort. Payment: $35 per month.

Lawyers may help with the following issues: collection and foreclosure, housing, family, consumer, public benefits and health, services for senior citizens and disabled persons, and education. HIV/STD testing & counseling; support groups; housing for those who are homeless and HIV positive; resources for individuals who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning, including a GLBT youth group. The Salvation Army

A transitional shelter for men and women; counseling with a pastor; Sunday church services; clothing resources; food on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; food referrals on Tuesdays; job placements, and transportation (if there are funds). Provides a number of services to homeless veterans through the Homeless Veterans Program. Population Served: The under privileged and those needing help. Free.

Senior Services of Central Illinois

Information and assistance that helps seniors utilize community resources to continue to be independent and not resort to a nursing home facility. Also, there is Senior Healthcare Assistance Program, Senior Pharmaceutical Assistance Program, case management, a homemaker and adult daycare service, a money management program, elder abuse and neglect program, and the crime victim/witness protection program. Daily Bread, Elder Assistance Services, RSVP (The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program), and Senior Transport are other outside services that can be arranged through Senior Services.

Population Served: Seniors ages 60 and older based on income. Free.

Springfield Urban League

Education, a head start program, weekly home visits for children from birth to three years, pre-school. Springfield Urban League's efforts focus on economic empowerment, health and quality of life, civic engagement, and civic rights. Serve those who have been affected by racial injustice. Assist in employment, housing, education, and social welfare.

Population Served: African-Americans, and others in need. Payment: Free, if enrolling a child in school may have sliding scale.

Washington Street Mission

Provide clothing & household goods (men's clothing on Mon. & Thurs. 10 -11am. women's clothing on Tues. & Fri. 10 - 11am.) Breakfast on Saturdays, 2 or 3 times per month. Coffee & doughnuts 7-11am, Mon-Fri. New restrooms, shower facilities, and laundry. Population Served: Anybody, no referrals needed. Free.
