GROW GROW is a consumer self-help group. Meetings, which combine personal testimony, reports on progress, group work on members’ problems and adult education about rebuilding lives are held weekly. Members keep in touch between meetings and host social activities throughout the year. Mental Illness and Substance Abuse (MISA) Description: MISA is an insight oriented group for individuals diagnosed with both mental illness and substance abuse/dependency. This group emphasizes self-disclosure with a combination of AA/12 step and motivational interviewing treatment philosophy. When: Mondays 11:15 a.m. at West Lake Center; Tuesdays 2:30 p.m. MHCCI in Springfield, 710 N. 8th Street; and Thursdays 1 p.m. at West Lake Center. Addictions Description: This group increases client awareness of the presence of addiction and its impact with symptoms of serious mental illness. The group addresses multiple addictions beyond alcohol and other drugs. Process addictions, such as gambling, sex, and food are often discussed.
